To address this\, our speakers’ Capstone project reimagines how neighborhoods can transition to clean heating through neighborhood-scale electrification\, a strategy that retires branches of the natural gas distribution system block by block and replaces them with renewable\, electric alternatives. \nThe team explored two approaches: building-by-building upgrades and shared thermal energy networks. We throw away at least 25% more trash during the period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day than any other time of year. \nAt “Waste less\, celebrate more” you’ll hear tips on how to reduce your waste during the holidays with our panel of experts from PIRG and Environment America. We’ll discuss zero waste gift ideas like experiences\, pre-loved gifts\, repaired gifts (did you know Pikes Peak Library District at Library21C offers a Repair Cafe to assist you?) and more. \nReducing what we consume helps us reduce manufacturing\, transportation\, and disposal pollution that impacts our climate and our environment – plus we can focus instead on what really matters. \nFor example\, much of our clothing (polyester\, nylon etc) and other purchases contain plastic. Plastics require extracting fossil fuels\, a main ingredient\, and a highly energy intensive conversion into plastics.
