SUMMARY:Here and Now Conversation on Climate Costs and Consequences\, All Souls Unitarian and Universalist Church
DESCRIPTION:RSVP via this link: https://actionnetwork.org/events/colorado-springs-here-now-tour-building-local-resilience-to-climate-disaster.\n\nColorado is already being hit hard by the impacts of climate change- worsening wildfires\, drought\, pine beetle devastation of forests\, 1\,000-year floods\, mudslides\, and impacts to major drivers of our local economies\, like agriculture and the winter sports industry. These disasters have already cost Coloradans billions of dollars in damages and adaptation measures. We are facing a greater and greater need for adaptation measures that already cost billions of dollars – costs that currently fall on taxpayers and local governments.\n \nClimate Superfunds make the biggest historic fossil fuel corporate polluters pay their fair share into a fund that is used by the state and local communities to help cover damages from climate disasters and to support resilience projects. These projects can range from wildfire and flood mitigation\, water conservation\, heat pumps\, and efficiency measures to cool schools and homes\, and resilience centers to support communities during heat waves and disaster events\, with local micro-grids and solar and battery backup to provide essential electricity. Vermont and New York were the first states to enact superfund laws in 2024. More than 10 states introduced versions of these bills in 2025\, and several —California\, Connecticut\, Massachusetts\, Maryland\, and New Jersey—are moving forward.\n\nThese in-person conversations will be designed to raise awareness of climate costs\, understand the most urgent climate impacts facing our community\, identify where resources are most needed\, and build support for actions that hold polluters accountable.

We believe movements grow when everyone can participate at the level that feels right for them.\nCome as you are. Bring a friend. SUMMARY:Letter to the Editor Workshop! Clean Energy Action Team Weekly Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Concerned about your rising utility bills? Want to make an impact in your community? Worried about air pollution impacting the health of you and your loved ones? Join us to raise your voice and help chart a path toward an affordable\, sustainable future. Meeting is in the Penrose Library Pine Room with an option to join virtually. \nThis week\, we’re doing a Letter to the Editor workshop on the Nixon coal plant. \nRSVP here – mandatory if you plan to come virtually\, that’s how you’ll get the link \n\nHow to Help:\nJoin our Clean Energy Action Team to consistently work to protect your community! This is our weekly working group meeting where we’ll be discussing campaign strategy\, learning the best ways to engage our legislators\, and taking more actions to implement clean energy policy and ensure that Nixon is closed as scheduled. Our meetings are every Thursday from 5:45-6:45pm in the Penrose Library’s Pine Room. There is also an option to join virtually. \n\n\nThe Issue:\nColoradans deserve an affordable and reliable energy system that safeguards our climate\, strengthens community resilience\, and reflects our shared commitment to a healthier future. Yet Colorado Springs Utilities is working to keep its coal plant online past its retirement deadline\, endangering the health of communities and energy affordability. At the same time\, growing corporate energy demand—particularly from data centers—is driving new utility projects that will increase energy bills and entrench fossil fuel dependence instead of accelerating Colorado’s transition to affordable\, clean energy. \nCleaner\, cheaper options exist\, and we can realign the energy system\, so our state is powered by clean and renewable energy. By establishing clear clean energy requirements\, reforming utility incentives\, and empowering communities and regulators\, we can chart a more ambitious and responsible path toward a clean energy future. Read more here. \nWho We Are:\nThe Sierra Club\, 350 Colorado Springs\, Sunrise Mvmt\, and Mi Familia Vota work to defend everyone’s right to a healthy world. Our members are volunteers of all ages and experience levels who care about achieving better air quality\, addressing climate change\, and building a clean\, renewable energy future. \nEmail Riss at riss@350colorado.org with questions.
