How to Help:
Join our Clean Energy Action Team to consistently work to protect your community! This is our weekly working group meeting where we’ll be discussing campaign strategy, learning the best ways to engage our legislators, and taking more actions to implement clean energy policy and ensure that Nixon is closed as scheduled. Our meetings are every Thursday from 5:45-6:45pm in the Penrose Library’s Pine Room. There is also an option to join virtually.
The Issue:
Coloradans deserve an affordable and reliable energy system that safeguards our climate, strengthens community resilience, and reflects our shared commitment to a healthier future. Yet Colorado Springs Utilities is working to keep its coal plant online past its retirement deadline, endangering the health of communities and energy affordability. At the same time, growing corporate energy demand—particularly from data centers—is driving new utility projects that will increase energy bills and entrench fossil fuel dependence instead of accelerating Colorado’s transition to affordable, clean energy.
Cleaner, cheaper options exist, and we can realign the energy system so our state is powered by clean and renewable energy. By establishing clear clean energy requirements, reforming utility incentives, and empowering communities and regulators, we can chart a more ambitious and responsible path toward a clean energy future.
